  1. I think you should define a network of paths they should roughly follow; it'll be a little more work for level desigh, but should avoid much of the pathfinding jank

  2. You could designate certain areas as panic zones, and then the NPCs use pathfinding to run to whichever panic zone is closest! The zones could include alerting guards or hiding in a house, like other people have suggested!

  3. Imagine making the vision degrees actually accurate thatd be pretty annoying and if i remember correctly humans have 160 degrees peripheral Vision and 35 degrees active focus or 120 degrees peripheral. Cant remember

  4. i think it can be cool if when they run into a wall they like freeze up scared with their back to the wall, people who are scared for their life arent always rational so it makes sense that they wont think to run around the building

  5. Maybe you could make a town hall where the villagers can run and send an alarm if they escape fully, which puts all the sus meters at really high levels, or causes them to look around more frequently.

  6. A lot of people already put ideas of places to run to so I’d suggest if it’s possible for the NPCs to pick a point away from Vampy and pathfind towards it and maybe that’ll solve the running straight into walls thing?

  7. They should have different responses to vampy! Older villagers and villagers with no equipment should just run away, maybe to a specific point on the map Vampy can't get to? Young to middle aged villagers that have something in their hands should work with the other creatures to fight Vampy, to protect the more vulnerable

  8. Maybe you could make the villagers run into their homes?

Also, how exactly do you do the pacifist run? Because seeing some videos about the game, it seems like you're required to bite every once in a while

  9. I think it would be cute for some of them to try and fight you. Like if it's a farmer with a tool, they could try to very sloppily hit you with it and then run towards a house or guard

  10. I think it should kind of escalate; at first, they just try to get away from you, and walk around obstacles, but eventually they'll run into areas you can't safely follow, like sunlight, or to armed guards.

  11. Either find a guard, find weapons, or go home
They could be different priorities so if there is no guards, find a home, if there are no homes, find weapons, and finally just run randomly away from you
A little randomization in the priorities would be nice too, I think

  12. 1. In a building (there’s a belief vampires can’t enter without permission after all)
    2. Guard enemy. One with armour you can’t bite
Or 3. The nearest sunny spot. Probably the most boring tbh but idk

  13. Make them run towards guards and alert them
If all guards are dead, maybe make a "guard tower" that they'll run to to spawn more guards if all guards are dead

That way you have time to recover from your mistake but it could still be brutal

Or maybe some town bell they can ring to summon more guards
