RPG has to have character stats that player has some control over if not total control of those stats. The d&d tables for what and how many die to roll was invented in the early 19th century by ottoman Turks as a way to game theory why they lost so badly against napoleon. That’s the true origin of what we could RPG today
RPG is what video games are. The origin point of all the rest of the games mechanics and what actually makes them good.

It's an excellent video and clearly you put a huge amount of time into this. It's absolutely appreciated.
I do get that you have a separate MMO video, but to largely overlook many here, when they were such an impactful influence on other RPG's of the late 90's and early 00's, seems like an oversight to me.

This video has taught me one thing: I like JRPGs more than RPGs. I'd like to play the Fallout series and Elder Scrolls one day but I'd happily take Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest over any of the other series mentioned in this video.
