It would be a no brainier to betray him for a Deidric artefact… Yet the Skull Staff is by far the absolute WORST Deidric artefact in the whole game, and you can't upgraded or do anything else with it to make useful like other artifacts…
Fuck Vaermina. Fuck the Staff. His Character is badass and His Dedication is Legendary. I have Tens of Weapons and Staffs which can Murk any enemy, even turn them into rabbits. I have no need for such a puny staff at the cost of such a Great mans life. I am the Avatar of Akatosh, and am Incorruptible, what use will I have for this junk "skull of corruption".
At the cost of the achievement for getting all daedric items, such as Hircine's ring and dawn breaker

I made him my follower; he now must carry all my dragon bones and help me save the world to redeem himself.
Alternatively you can rely on Skyrim being held together by string cheese to get the staff and have Erandur as a companion
