  1. I got the KS package last week. It's okay, but I would have much preferred it be the third instalment of the campaign series. This one is like… well, it's another game that, if I want to run it, will have to run alongside the existing BR characters that my group has. I think it's a good idea in theory ("Yay, let's play things from the other side!") but in practical terms is a lot less compelling.

  2. 8:30 and 16:00 – I’m really glad you emphasized this point Jeff, especially with your many years of experience and expertise with Call of Cthulhu, which also requires a definite “buy in” from the table.

  3. It does suck that there was such a delay but they did say on the Kickstarter updates that one of the lead staff was having problems (I think health but I don't remember for sure) and they wanted to wait for their recovery rather than press on without.
I think that's a good enough reason for the delay, and it's kind of nice for them to make allowances for the staff they want instead of filling the game and maybe jeapordizing the quality of the game.

Now I hope they put out the 3rd box in the starter set adventure to complete that story, with that I think you could call the product line done and say you've got a complete game. Of course I hope that doesn't happen and that the game goes from strength to strength because I love Blade runner and this game!

  4. It seems like the only time I hear anything about this game getting run is at conventions. There's an upcoming con in DC that's got a few rounds of it. But otherwise, yeah. I think you're right. Stuff has taken so long to come out. And it seems like a lot of the adventures are kinda restrictive, on account of all the clues and stuff. There's a balance. Too much stuff is overwhelming. Too little makes it feel unsupported and forgotten. This has definitely come down on the latter side. Heck, I'm frustrated that Alien still doesn't have a Space Truckers book, but at least it's had a bunch of other things come out.
20 years ago, I'd have been ALL over this game. But, I haven't bought into it for a bunch of reasons, and that makes me a little sad. Heck, a friend of mine, has run a few Alien games for me and is an even bigger BladeRunner fan than me. He's probably more into BladeRunner than Alien, and I don't think he's even picked the game up.

  5. Wow. It feels like it took an AGE for Free League to get this one to retail. Glad to see it's finally out there. Some UK outlets had it for preorder at a whopping £60 a few months back!

  6. I'm closing out a long running DND campaign, but once that is done, I'm hoping to run my crew through the Blade Runner starter box adventure. If my core group appreciates it, maybe we can expand later on down the line.

  7. Great review! Thanks. I love the Bladerunner universe. Missed the backing of this but might pick up this book. I agree on the white lettering on black background. I wish they would stop doing that. I can't even read my hard copy of Outcast Silver Raiders because of that. You combine that with graphics overlayed on text printed in white on glossy black background and my eyes revolt.

  8. Quite the intro!

Learned about the new book too late to back it I think, but the original Blade Runner book felt like a genuine good buy for me despite me getting it on clearance, rare example of that happening for me. So I'd love to expand on that book with more play modes and options, I guess I'm the rare one who's been anticipating this one despite not being a backer

You could be a replicant in the prior book but like you say it's within the narrow angle of being in law enforcement. You said being human and replicant are kind of the same, the old game had a few differences psychologically I think, did any of that carry over? I guess the bigger question, do you need the older book at all to play the new game or does it give you the same basic rules in this one too?

Something I just realized, you could maybe use the heat mechanic to have law enforcement be under-cover, or even balance it out with a rebellious replicant working for the LAPD. I still want to see how viable a "little people" campaign would be, where you just try to live in the world, maybe do capers or whatever. Glad they have scenarios in the book this time

Still curious about how they manage the solo rules, really wish those weren't in a separate product. Thanks for the review!
